St Ignatius of Loyola

The birth of Ignatius: He was born in 1491 in the Basque country in Spain, at th dawn of a new world: we will discover America. The world is abuzz with the discovery of the New World. The era is exploring the perilous journeys. Ignatius will travel a great first within himself, which could be dangerous at times. It will also make his life a great adventure and will be called the «Pilgrim». Ignatius lost his mother shortly after his birth.1

He will seek compensation for This loss in his love for women and not just any as he dedicates his life to Mary in 1522: «He knelt before the altar of our Lady: where he spent the night.2

His personality is full of contrasts whose unity can only be achived through action. Strick of reasoning and the taste of great things; firmness and tenderness, as fixed and immutable as a nail vigorously pressed and extreme flexibility to situations and strong determination; eyes always focused towards the most universal and almost scrupulous passion for the seemingly minute detail.3

His conversion began after the battle of Pamplona: he confesses to «30 years sins Father, vainglory4. After Ignatius’ conversion he is very determined in his faithfulness to God.

His mission: Ignatius made a journey: The Lord led the walk in teaching him the discernment of spirits whisk the revealed to Ignatius. Ignatius wrote what could «be useful to others5 through what he lived: there are the Spiritual Exercises: a treasure of spiritual literature.» His Spiritual Exercises trace a path that wants to dedicate his life «to the greater glory of God»6. He began to teach them. The road will not be easy. The Inquisition will stop 11 times: he always comes out the winner, even it faced 4 trials7 although he went to jail 3 times8 22 days the third9 time he even faced persecutions and is subject to false rumors, more often than not. These events led hom to say: «I have to study». He studied in Paris: He gave the exercices to Fabre, François Xavier. He is founder of the communauty of the follow of Jesus which he founded in Paris in 1534.
